First Responders
Trauma, Anxiety, Depression,
and Substance Abuse

As a first responder,

you are exposed to high-stress levels daily, which places you at increased risk for various trauma. You chose this career because you want to be able to help people in need. That passion outweighs the risks you take every day. No matter what kind of first responder you are, one thing all of you have in common is the need to stay strong, setting aside your feelings, and just getting the job done. However, this all puts you at increased risk for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and PTSD, among other things.

I understand that it is so hard to seek help in a culture that expects you to "suck it up" or "deal with it." Therapy can help lighten the load, so you don't have to carry the burden with you every day. I hope that by working together, you can keep your home and social life thriving, heal emotional pain, prevent burnout, and build resilience by rapidly and effectively rebound from any further psychological disturbances and resisting psychological distress in ways that limit long term negative effects or behaviors. Your line of work requires you to give it your all, and that takes some mental skills.
